FAQs
How long does installation take?
The installation time will depend on the complexity of the system. As a guide, a small 3-bedroom new-build property would take 2 days.
During installation, most work is undertaken at what we call ‘first fix’. This is installing the pipes and heads while we have access to the ceiling/floor voids.
Once the pipework and heads are installed, we pressure test the system to ensure the integrity of the pipework.
Later on in the project, we will return for the second fix. This involves installing the cover plates for the heads (after decoration is finished) and the system delivery equipment (mains connection/pump and tank).
Lastly, it’s commission time – we carry out a flow and pressure test on the installed system to ensure it meets the design requirements.
Who’s responsible for fire protection?
Is it a legal requirement to install a residential sprinkler system?
In England, property owners are required to install sprinkler systems in new residential blocks over 11 metres high above ground level.
What is the most common type of sprinkler system in residential buildings?
Wet pipe systems are the most common type of residential sprinkler systems. Water is stored under pressure within the system and is then released when fire is detected. This straightforward design is favoured thanks to its reliability and rapid response time.
How much does a residential sprinkler system cost?
The cost of a residential sprinkler system will depend on the size of the system and your property’s requirements. It also depends on the type of sprinkler system required and the installation method.
As an example, a new-build 3-bedroom house will typically cost £2,400 for a mains-fed system.
